Hey guys, So I've been riding for around a year. I only take one lesson a week, Sometimes only 2 lessons a month,I don't lease or own a horse. I HOPE I can pay for a half lease myself this year. And I really want a friend who is into horses to. I am not very good at making friends but I really want a friend because last year my friends all left. And I want a riding buddy.
Any tips or relate?

I am not very good at making new friends either :) i am quite awkward in social settings and never really know what to say. Do you ride in a group lesson or private? I've gotten to know the girls in my group lessons just by saying hello and did you enjoy riding x horse today and laughing at little things their horse does, or saying wow your horse did well at this today etc

The other thing you can do is put on your local fb pages "looking to connect with other horse riders in the area". I met one of my friends this way

Aw it's hard making friends sometimes, I totally get it as I'm not great socially (I get anxious) and therefore don't make friends easily. Is there anyone on the yard where you have lessons that has a horse that you could buddy up with? When you loan a horse will it be on the same yard?
I HOPE SO. I have seen kids my age around but they aren't very nice.

Thanks! I'll test that out. I usually do private but their sometimes are people having lessons to.

definitely see if you.can join.a group.lesson.as.well! i started out with.private and now do both. group lessons are a different pace but its awesome to get to know and ride with other people

I know exactly how you feel! I moved 100miles away from home to live with my partner more than 4 years ago after we graduated and I still struggle sometimes. It does get somewhat easier as you get older though as you tend to care what people think less - and remember if you even just make one or two brilliant friends that can be better than just knowing lots of people :) I used to worry about that which is silly!

At my riding school I just chat to people after rides. If you can join a group hack that's a fun way to chat to people too. Especially if your lucky enough to have a school which offers things like picnic rides!

I never had or wanted a lot of friends, I just had 2-3 at a time that I was close with. I do not know about a group hack or picnic rides but that would be AWESOME! I'll be sure to ask on Saturday. Thanks! And FYI I never really cared what people thought about me. I was always the one friend that people confided in :)

Sorry I didn't mean any offence or that you personally care what people think - bad wording on my part! Personally for me that is relevent as I've got much more confident as I've gotten older and horses have helped hugely with that :) I hope you can go out on a picnic ride; they are so much fun! And lovely to let the horses have a break and graze next to you whilst you have a chat to people :) I would also highly recommend as others have group lessons (I especially find these helpful when watching other people to see if I'm understanding instructions correctly!)

No offense taken! :) I was not mad or anything like that! :) :) My instructor said that the other riding instructor occasionally takes a group out riding. I hope I can do that someday!

Join your local riding club or sign up as a volunteer for Riding For The Disabled - I do both and have made lots of lovely horsey friends both ways. You don't need a horse or your own to do the social stuff at riding club.

I'll defiantly look into the riding club. Riding for the disabled might work but I don't think I have that time right now.
