Years ago I used to a lot of riding, this was before the age of the internet, now getting back into it I'm just watching loads of you tube videos. Have had a few lessons but not just lately.

So here's my question, I was taught to ask for canter by sitting bringing the inside leg forward to the girth and swinging through with the inside hip. Now I've kind of got the hang of this now but once in canter do I bring my leg back or keep it there? If I keep it there I find I have more weight on my inside hip and when I centre my weight my horse drops out of canter. So not sure if he's being lazy and using any excuse or if it's me.
He's ex dressage horse and quite tuned in to his aids, me....... I'm like a sack of spuds.
I could ask my RI but I thought I'd be sociable and ask you for your opinions :)

Normally it's inside leg on the girth and outside leg behind to ask for canter.
It depends on how your horse has been trained re leg position during canter, mine I ask and return to neutral and she continues until I ask for something else but many you have to maintain the ask to maintain the pace, be that because they are lazy or just because that the way they have always been ridden.
