Warm days, fields (and poo!) rapidly going green, coat being shed like mad, and ATTITUDE! The sooner his field dries up so they can be out 24/7 the better.

The last two days he's been bolshy, mouthy, and front legs striking out. Why walk when you can do a strutty trot? His field mate is suddenly not the boss and he's spending a lot of time grazing the fenceline next to themares and keeping his friend away from them.

To handle he's pushing his luck and chancing the odd nip if he thinks I'm not paying attention. To ride he's napping leaving the yard and the first bit of the lane then when he gives in he's forward almost to a fault and argumentative if that movement is interrupted.

He was a horror for the sheath cleaner today and normally he thinks that's a wonderful way to spend some time. He knocked her over - heknew what he was doing, and then was shoving her around. Bribes had no impact, he can keep the front end still while still moving his quarters. Holding up a front produced rearing, a twitch produced a threat to kick that I warned her to take seriously and he nearly got her with a front taking it off. I'vee said it before, but he really is a battering ram of a horse when he doesn't choose to play nicely and I can see at times why he had a bad name.

If his mindset doesn't improve I'm seriously considering a couple of ml of Sedalin for the farrier next week!

On a better note I saw bees and butterflies out today! I know some colder weather is foreecast again but today was glorious.

Oh dear! What a terror!
I’m grateful Monkey doesn’t get difficult to handle, just a little more spicy to ride in that he gets more over excited and spooky.

Tuesday was really nice and sunny. The forecast for yesterday was spring like. However I didnt think we got as much sun as the day before.
I actually got the lawn mower out and mowed all the lawns when i got home from work. Last year the growth on my top lawn in the spring was insane and such hard work doing the first cut. I decided I didn't want this year. It was pretty long but with the few dry days it made a difference and it didnt clog up the mower too much. Oh how I miss the horses mowing the lawns though. Can't use the cows or sheep I would if I could. They'd of loved what I mowed off yesterday.

I noticed yesterday when I moved the cows. 2 ignored the hay and bee-lined it straight to the trees for a rub and scratch session. So they are wanting to shed there winter coats.

Yup spring is definitely in the air. Yesterday morning thought it was odd only Zi at the back door for breakfast. Hmm, too quiet. No sign of the Fuz. Checked yard, stables, nope no sign. She had broken and entered into Storm's front field paddocks and was right at the far end. She'd been through the veg patch and when she spotted me coming for her she decided to squeeze inside the pig barn (I could have laughed because we always joke that the pens would fit a shettie or small pony!). Anyway no harm done. But spring has sprung because her mischief head is firmly back on! And though there's some mud, there's definitely green stuff too! 🌻 🤭 🐴

Yes it's in the air bit still wet.
Mine is jumping twigs, so I will set up a twig grid if she's that desperate.

@MrC I'm looking forward to it too, it's felt likee a long winter even if it hasn't been that cold here.

We had a little discussion about manners this morning, and while I don;t think he needs to allocate time to polishing his halo he has at least realised God does not call him God!

Oh dear Luka 🤣

Well today was the first day without much napping, just planted in the yard but I used that as a chance to chat to a friend which in his eyes ruined the effect 😂 . After that he was civilized to ride though still rather forward. And while I provbably shouldn't speak too soon he does seem to be remembering that teeth are not to make contact with me. Wish me luck for the farrier tomorrow!

So much spring stuff is out now - daffodils, primroses, blossom and the fields and hedges are looking greener by the day. ven I'm out of my proper winter riding tights, though I do still have ons with a light flecee lining on - it doesn't do to rush these things 😂

Yes it feels springy here, but its too windy for me to ride. I've been giving them free-range terms again and poor Zi came in looking off this morning:(. Mr T thinks he can feel a tiny bit of swelling in one leg so he's been ice booting him all day on and off and we're keeping him inside the byre this afternoon. He can wander the yard tonight, and hopefully it will just be a tweak. I think he must have had the wind up his tail last night or something. There's definitely grass coming as they are all getting less keen on the haylege. And its nice stuff - yet they aren't wolfing it like they were when they are up the yard. And the mud is drying up too - hurrah for that.
@carthorse yes, don't rush to change riding tights just yet heheee, I'm still wearing a vest under my jumpers! :D

Fingers crossed it's just a tweak @Trewsers , Luka's had a few over thewinter where he's been careering around in the mud and slipped or misjudged stopping distances. They don't learn, do they? Being able to have him in the byre and yard sounds so useful, i'd love an option like that.

I don't get seperated from fleecy linings until it's properly warm, though I have shed the thermal tops. My legs feel it more and my knees complain, it isn't worth it.

It was windy here this morning, but not enough to blow the dustbins around so I went for it. He's looky but not really that spooky if that makes sense? Now rain is a different matter, he hates being ridden in that and is a pita!

Oh wow @chunky monkey , you're much further along than us! I've been looking for violets in the places they normally grow but I haven't seen any yet, there are loads of primroses though, far more than most years. And not a sign of hawthorn blossom yet, or even blackthorn. That's really early for hawthorn, it isn't even in bud here.

Now the primroses that grow on my lawn are only just coming through. I was able to mow the grass last week without cutting off the prims.
I only saw a few violets this morning probably because there sheltered under the dry stone wall.

Thankfully he was well behaved for the farrier, in fact better than the last couple of visits. I had my doubts when hecame to call at a brisk canter throwing his front end about and adding a few bucks, but this time I was doing him an injustice.

Almost overnight there are celandines and daisies everywhere.

Monday I said we didn't have any blackthorn out, now everywhere is white with it! There's a distinct nip n the air again today though, a reminder it's still only early March no matter how mild it's been in the day.

My car was filthy this morning, covered in Sahara dust. Couldn't see out the window when I got in it. Yet it was perfectly clean when I drove home last night. It was nippy and a slight muzzle in the air carrying all that dust in. Ive noticed other parked cars round town looked dirty too.

I read about that on the news. My windows are often covered in sand as we get a lot of wind up here anyway. But that Sahara dust sounds very grubby!

Our daffs are on their way now. Its really warm here today, rode without a jacket - yaye! The sunshine is lovely, but it shows every bit of dust up in the house lol But it is nice after the long gloomy winter. I just groomed Zi in the sun it was lovely and warm, I love the smell of his coat when the suns been on it. We are waiting for the vet - wish us luck😞
