I’m a relatively new rider with a handful of arena lessons and a series of perhaps 15 fast trail rides. The fast trail rides consist of trotting and cantering through the bush at a farm we visit. During this visit, I rode a few different horses and developed swollen sitting bones after my 3 rides! It firm and swollen right below my sitting bones where your butt meets your thighs. Would this happen because I’m making the wrong contact when cantering?
I developed a bad habit of leaning forward in a western saddle while riding at this farm since all the guides do it but in a recent lesson, I was reminded to be more upright so perhaps that’s why I’m impacting a different area? I’m also finding that I am sometimes losing my footing on the left side during the canter. Perhaps I need to get back into the arena instead of bush bashing!
